Part 1a: Signing up for Basetao 

1. Go to www.basetao.com 

2. Tap “Login” (top right corner)

3. On the pop up menu, select “Sign up now” 

 

4. Sign up with your details (note, Basetao states that shipping information must match payment/user information). For first time users, you will need to create a username, email address, password and the random code (caps sensitive) to create an account. You will need to verify via email and it will prompt you to log in using the newly created log in information you just created.

Part 2a: Topping Up (PayPal method) (5 minutes) 

Paypal is the quickest way to top up and allows you to use your credit card. That said, the “fee” comes in two forms (1) being a 2.9% + $.30 charge per top up (max top up of $500) AND (2) in the form of a poor exchange rate (set by Basetao). Note that Basetao requires your final shipping address to match the billing address from PayPal. 

  1. Sign in
  2. On the top right corner, hover over your username and a dropdown menu will appear 3. Select “Top Up” 

  1. Select “PayPal option” 

  1. Select the amount you would like to top up 
  2. Input your Paypal account name (email or username)
  3. Select “Copy” the link into a separate window and follow the PayPal prompt to remit payment. NOTE: Save the ‘Transaction ID’ issued by PayPal for reference. 
  4. Paste the Unique Transaction ID into the “Unique transaction ID box” 
  5. Submit! The amount should immediately appear in your account 
  6. The amount should appear in your balance and can be viewed by hovering over your username and  selecting “My Account”. 

Part 2b: Topping Up (WU/Transferwise method) (up to 24-48 hours) 

Many prefer this method of topping up, but can require ~24 hours (maybe more depending on how quickly WU or Wise approves the transfer) to have the balance appear in your account. Note, WU and Wise will be slower for people using the service for the first time, as they wait for payments to clear fully (usually the following business day). There can be a delay in the event of a bank holiday in your country or in China, so plan ahead. This method is the most cost efficient; Basetao gives you the exact amount WU or Wise remits to them, which you will see in the transaction). 

  1. Basetao no longer requires emails to verify Wise information – this info sourced from the Basetao Discord (all credit goes to OP user Kaj)
  2. Create an account on Wise at https://wise.com/ (or skip this step if you already have an existing account, go to step 4). You can use this link https://wise.com/u/kajv9 (to get your first transfer fee-free up to 500 EUR).
  3. Input your email address, select personal account, your country of residence, phone number for 2FA setup and password.
  4. Go to https://wise.com/send/ where you will be able to input the amount you want to transfer. You will see this transfer box (https://imgur.com/a/G6ZkNpL).
  5. On the right of the ‘You send’ box, you will click the drop down menu and select your local currency. Wise should automatically select the local currency from the country of residence that you chose earlier (https://imgur.com/a/v7ZDou2).
  6. Under the ‘You send’ box, you will input the amount of your chosen local currency you would like to send. Use the ‘Low cost transfer’ fee that Wise automatically selects.
  7. On the right of the ‘Recipient gets’ box, you will click the drop down menu and input ‘CNY’ as shown (https://imgur.com/a/ar2TuYt).
  8. Under the ‘Recipient gets’ box, Wise will calculate the amount that will be transferred into Chinese Yuan (CNY). The amount shown in the ‘Recipient gets’ box is the amount that will be recharged into your Basetao account.
  9. Click on ‘Continue’ and select ‘Personal’. You will now be shown this (https://imgur.com/a/ryyRjE7) where you will input all of the appropriate information and click on ‘Continue’.
  10. Next is to select who will receiving your transfer, Select ‘Someone else’ and this box (https://imgur.com/a/o9OTtwb) will pop up. This stage is critical as if the information is entered incorrectly, your transfer will not be recieved by Basetao and may be unretrievable afterwards. Under the ‘Bank details’ section and the ‘Full name of the account holder’ box, insert the First name and Last name that you can find in 🚩〉wise-info. Under the ‘Card Number’ section, insert the ‘Bank card number’ from 🚩〉wise-info. Then select ‘Continue’. You will then see this (https://imgur.com/a/yWVYXEW) where you can review your transfer. When you have checked the details you can select ‘Confirm and Continue’.
  11. Next will appear this section (https://imgur.com/a/y5uWsyz) where on the left hand side you will see ‘Choose your transfer type’. Here you can choose how you want to send your money. ‘Fast and easy transfer’ is suggested as it can be paid for by either Debit or Credit card.
  12. Once you have confirmed this, select ‘Continue to payment’. You will then see this section (https://imgur.com/a/L0eBPOT). Here you will input your card information and confirm once again the ‘Transfer details’ on the right hand side.
  13. When you are ready to complete payment, select ‘Pay (amount of selected currency)’. Wise will then complete the transfer and send it to Basetao.
  14. After the transfer has completed, send an email to basetao2you@vip.163.com with the exact amount that you sent in CNY and your Basetao username.
  15. An agent will then check if the transfer was completed and will recharge your account and send a reply back to you confirming the recharge shortly. Funds should be available within 24 hours of Basetao receiving your funds. The transfer process is now complete! Happy shopping
